Fort Worth, there and back again. It is only a mere 4 hours from Stillwater, so it is actually a pretty easy drive. Excepting the solid downpour on the way back that is.
Welcome to the lab, Cassidy Gierhart! Cassidy is an undergraduate student, aspiring Chemical Engineer, and part of the prestigious Freshman Research Scholars program here at OSU (information on this program can be found at http://okstateu.com/freshmanresearchscholars). She will be learning the ins-and-outs of molecular modeling in the lab, and she will be applying this knowledge to a project on peptide conformation sampling and model fabrication. It's never too early to get interested in science and explore new fields of knowledge, so we are excited to have Cassidy join us and get started!
Welcome to the lab, Andrew Adams! Andrew is an undergraduate who is double majoring in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. After doing some experimental research with Dr. Kevin Ausman, he decided he wanted a new challenge doing some theoretical chemistry. We have a fun new project planned, and hopefully we will have some cool findings soon.
It was nice to receive a note from Pavel Jungwirth, Senior Editor of the Journal of Physical Chemistry. He let us know that our recent publication on i-PMF was included in a special virtual issue on recent advances in ion pairing in experiment and simulations!
Going back to San Francisco is always great, and you quickly realize how out of shape you are when you start walking all over the city. This particular visit was to present on a research project that just came out in the Journal of Physical Chemistry B on predicting effective interactions between ions. Thanks go out to Ray Luo (UC Irvine) and Emil Alexov (Clemson) for the invite to present. This was a doubly good experience in that my partner in crime on this particular project, Miha, stopped in San Francisco to attend this particular meeting on his tour away from Slovenia.
